Value Room Rates Are King

Room

Despite The Wild Atlantic way initiative breathing life into the tourism sector, alongside a clever mix of innovation and strategy by operators, customers still want great deals on rooms.

We recently polled 9,000 of our Members hailing from all over Ireland on what matters most to them when booking a “staycation” and, unsurprisingly, competitive room rates are a top priority for virtually everyone.

Robust packages and special offers also top the list for holiday-makers wanting to make reservations at Irish hotels. 9 out of 10 respondents told us that getting value for their money is highly important.

Elsewhere, a property’s credentials were considered critical for customers with 39% opting to stay in an establishment that had acquired an award. Quality assurance by an external party, such as the AA, is also highly valued by customers.  63% of those we polled said this would shape their decision-making process.

Happy to travel…

Those of you located in the far-flung corners of Donegal or atop the windswept sloping hills of Kerry needn’t worry either, for travel is not a deal-breaker when it comes to domestic tourists.  44% of our survey participants told us that they would have no qualms about getting behind the wheel for more than two hours.

...and to dine in-house

Seemingly the Irish palate has grown used to a cuisine rich in taste and variety as 70% of those surveyed preferred to indulge in fine dining at an establishment over pursuing nearby local attractions. Irish foodies also deem word-of-mouth a pre-requisite before making a reservation, with 72% relying on restaurant reviews in the media.

The survey also proved, somewhat unsurprisingly, that hygiene standards still top of the agenda for 96% of AA members.
