Giro Stage 1 Belfast

Friday 9th May: Belfast 

Festivities kick off on Thursday 8th May with the Giro d’Italia Opening Event – Come Meet the Riders! in the grounds of Belfast City Hall.

From 9pm Thursday 8th through to 8pm Saturday 10th May, the junction of Donegall Square North/Donegall Square West and Wellington Place will be closed.  

Stage 1: Friday 9th May

The Team Time Trial takes place on Friday and there will be full road closures on this route. All riders will complete the full route for practice and no parking will be allowed.

It will start from the slipways at the Titanic Belfast. The 21.7km route will travel out to Parliament Buildings, Stormont then back towards the city centre via Queens Bridge, the Ormeau Road and Stranmillis finishing at City Hall.

Road Closures:

From 9:30am to 12:30pm: Queens Rd, Sydenham Rd, Middlepath St, Newtownards Rd, Upr Newtownards Rd, Stormont Gate, Stormont, Bridge End, Queens Bridge, Oxford St, East Bridge St, Cromac St, Ormeau Rd, Stranmillis Embankment, Stranmillis Rd, University Rd, Wellington Place, Donegall Square North.

From 12:30pm to 4pm: roads will re-open on the Team Time Trial Route. Parking restrictions will remain in place.

From 4pm until approx. 8:30pm: the full competitive team pursuit event gets underway. Queens Rd, Sydenham Rd, Middlepath St, Newtownards Rd, Upr Newtownards Rd, Stormont Gate, Stormont, Bridge End, Queens Bridge, Oxford St, East Bridge St, Cromac St, Ormeau Rd, Stranmillis Embankment, Stranmillis Rd, University Rd, Wellington Place, Donegall Square North.

The route will then fully reopen with the exception of the junction of Donegall Square North/Donegall Square West and Wellington Place.
