PJs Restaurant at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel

aaicon Restaurant %

The castellated house was built in the 18th century, and has had something of a martial career, being successively owned by a parade of army officers, the scene of fighting during the Easter Rising, and having troops stationed here during the second world war. Things are rather calmer now, as befits the tranquil prospect of its perch overlooking Dublin Bay. A range of hospitable dining venues culminates in the elegant PJ's restaurant, where brocade-upholstered chairs and smart table settings are the background for a menu of well-wrought country-house cooking. There's no wild experimentation here, just good honest preparations of prime materials. Expect Dublin Bay prawns in provençal sauce or garlic butter, as the prelude to grilled lamb cutlets with minted pea and potato cake and redcurrant jelly, or plaice with toasted almond butter. Finish with apple pie, or a chocolate brownie served with berry compôte and vanilla ice cream.
