The Restaurant at Lough Inagh Lodge

Inagh Valley
aaicon Restaurant %

Dating from 1880, when it was built as a fishing lodge, this boutique hotel is in a lovely spot on the shore of Lough Inagh surrounded by wild mountains. There's an oak-panelled bar, a library with a log fire, and a restaurant where silver and glassware reflect candlelight and an oval window gives wonderful views. Chatty and attentive staff are happy to make recommendations about the set-price dinner menu, which might open with air-dried lamb and beef with a warm chickpea croquette and red onion marmalade, or mussels steamed with white wine and garlic. A modern spin is given to traditional Irish cuisine, along with the more classical, and fresh native produce is evident. Main courses are commendably free of frills and flounces. Precisely cooked duck breast, sliced and fanned on the plate, in a sauce of plum purée hinting of star anise, for instance, is served with fondant potato and well-timed seasonal vegetables, or baked lobster with a simple lemon butter. End with luscious chocolate pudding with raspberry sorbet and slices of poached orange.
