The Falls Restaurant at Sheen Falls Lodge

aaicon Restaurant %

High on a promontory in woodland and gardens, this modern building has views of Kenmare Bay to one side and of Sheen Falls on the other. The Falls Restaurant named after the eponymous falls, which are floodlit after dark - although attention is likely to be diverted to the enticements on the menu. The cooking is based on a contemporary European repertory, with the kitchen applying its own creative spin on things, adding confit pork belly ravioli to green pea soup, for instance, and making another starter of veal carpaccio and pan-fried sweetbreads and serving them with a 'dust' of aged balsamic, and watermelon and samphire marinated in salted olive oil. Main courses are intelligently composed, offering much to interest, with fillet of local hake paired with a crab beignet and served with thyme risotto, bell pepper jus and seasonal vegetables, and pan-fried smoked duck breast accompanied by confit drumstick, dandelion leaves, sage butter and gnocchi. A touch of novelty is seen in puddings like mojito sponge with pineapple sorbet and pineapple and chili kebab.
