The Kitchen Restaurant at Mount Falcon Estate

Foxford Road, Ballina
aaicon Restaurant %

The grand baronial-style house stands in 100 acres of grounds, with pristine lawns and woodland, and a helipad if you plan to arrive in style. The hotel on the banks of River Moy is popular for golfers, who are drawn to the top courses that pepper the landscape in these parts. The dining option is the Kitchen Restaurant, so named as it takes up the kitchen and pantry area of this splendid old house, and it looks good with its linen-clad tables and food-related prints on the walls. The chef hails from Paris and there's a definite French classicism to his output, as well as a genuine appreciation of the top quality produce available in this part of Ireland. The 100-acre estate makes a contribution to the menu, too. Start perhaps with a winning combo of Wicklow pigeon and 'Kelly's' black pudding, the pigeon marinated in cocoa liqueur, the black pudding in a crisp croquette, plus root parsley purée , parsley steam cake, cocoa jelly and a grand veneur sauce - refined and complex stuff. Main course might deliver corn-fed chicken cooked sous-vide with truffle spätzle, confit black lard and lavender jus.
