The Woodlands Restaurant at Glenview Hotel

Glen O' The Downs, Delgany
aaicon Restaurant %

The Woodlands Restaurant at this hotel is up on the first floor to maximise the view over the Glen o' the Downs, and it is an impressive vista. There are large arched windows to make the best of the views over the treetops and down the valley, and inside all is soothing pastel shades and sparkling glassware. The chef has Indian heritage and there are one or two Asian touches on the menu, but the food is mostly what is loosely termed modern Irish cooking. A starter of pan-fried scallops with shellfish bisque is a winning combination, or there might be confit duck leg croquettes served with a spiced apple purée. To follow, Wicklow lamb comes in a fashionable three-way construction, with an array of vegetables, and Kilmore Quay cod is flavoured with Goan spices and served with quail's egg and red onion chutney. For dessert, pannacotta with fresh strawberries is a summer treat.
