Staff members of the AA formed a team named the AA All-stars, and took part in the ISPCC 7 a side soccer tournament held in UCD on March 6th.
The AA Allstars qualified in third place from a group containing the eventual winners, La Furia, with a record of three games played, three goals conceded and one goal scored.
Hopes were not high as they went into the first knockout phase meeting one of the competitions favourites Slatterys, of D4 who had topped their group with ease. The AA Allstars took a shock lead in a silky move that culminated in a fantastic deft header from Donal Doherty, bulging the left corner of Slatterys net. The next twenty minutes resulted in a siege like scene with the AA Allstars having to repel attack after attack!! The All-stars prevailed to progress to the next round.
In the last eight of the competition the All-stars took on another motoring giant in Joe Duffy’s motors. This was a keenly contested game with action swinging from one end of the pitch to the other. Just as the calls were going out to put the yellow and black bunting out at AA HQ the All-stars were hit with two finely taken goals to eliminate them from the competition.
As a result of AA staff efforts, €1733 was raised and donated to the ISPCC.
