WEATHER OVERVIEW: Wet and windy conditions will return into Thursday, with the risk of some persistent and widespread moderate or heavy rain bringing locally significant rainfall totals. A brief drier and brighter spell for a time on Friday, but then turning wet and windy once again, from the west, later in the day.
SIGNIFICANT WEATHER: Widespread and persistent moderate to heavy rain on Thursday will bring poor driving conditions and perhaps some travel disruption due to temporary flooding. The most notable rainfall totals are likely across Munster and Leinster with up to 40mm in some places within the 24hours of Thursday.
Another very wet and very windy period of weather is currently expected later on Friday and into Saturday. While not as severe as what was produced by the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia, gales or severe gales may well return into the weekend.
FORECAST: A very unsettled day on Thursday with spells of rain spread north and east across many areas and persisting across many regions too throughout the day. Moderate or heavy rain is likely to be widespread with some significant rainfall totals developing.

Through into Friday and overnight, rain may well be present across parts of Ulster, but this clearing and then many areas drier and brighter for a time. It will, however, then become increasingly wet and windy, from the west, across parts of Connacht and Munster later in the day and this is heralding the arrival of another spell of stormy conditions into the weekend.

TEMPERATURES: Temperatures will be near to average through the remainder of the week with maximum temperatures around 10C to 14C. Minimum temperatures around 8C to 12C through into Thursday, but Thursday night into Friday will be a chilly night, with minimum temperatures just 4C or 5C by Friday morning in the countryside.
