All you need to know about Ironman 70.3 Dún Laoghaire 2019

Ironman 70.3 returns to Dún Laoghaire on Sunday 25th August. The course will take in parts of south Dublin and north Wicklow, bringing road closures and traffic diversions to affected areas.

ROUTE

A 1.9km swim will kick off the day, and take place early Sunday morning in Scotsman’s Bay, Dún Laoghaire. Swimmers will exit the water at Newtownsmith before the next leg. A 90km cycle will follow the swim. Athletes will head south towards the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains, travelling through Kilternan, Enniskerry and Roundwood. They will then travel north through the Sally Gap, Glencree, Glencullen, and back through Kilternan to Dún Laoghaire. The final leg will see athletes complete a 21km run along the seafront, which will take in Dún Laoghaire Village, Monkstown and Seapoint. The finish line will be at the Lexicon Library and Cultural Centre in Dún Laoghaire.

ROAD CLOSURES

Some roads will be closed in Dún Laoghaire on Saturday (24th): Link Rd and Marine Parade (between Windsor Tce and Otranto Place) will close from 7am to 7pm. Queen's Rd will be closed from 7am on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday (25th). The following road closures will all be in place on Sunday (25th):  From 4am to 7pm on Sunday, the following roads in Dún Laoghaire will close: Link Rd, Marine Parade and Windsor Tce, along with Park Rd (until 9:30am). Glenageary Rd Lwr (R118) will be closed from 6:30am to 9:30am. From 6:30am to 9:45am, one lane of the N11 southbound will close from Wyattville Rd to the M11/Dublin Rd (R837). During this time, southbound on Wyattville Rd will close from the Church Rd jct to the N11. The northbound side of the same stretch will close from 7am to 2pm. From 6:30am to 9:45am, Church Rd in Killiney will close southbound between the Graduate R/A and Wyattville Rd. The northbound side will close from 7am to 2pm. The Dublin Rd (R837) will close in Shankill from the N11 to Stonebridge Rd from 6:30am to 9:45am, meanwhile, Stonebridge Rd itself will be completely closed. The northbound side of Stonebridge Rd will remain closed until 1:45pm between Rathmichael Church and Mulinastill Rd. From 6:30am to 10:15am, Rathmichael Rd and Ballycorus Rd (R116) will close between Rathmichael and Kilternan. The eastbound side of Ballycorus Rd will remain closed until 1:45pm from Enniskerry Rd (R117) to Rathmichael Church. Mulinastill Rd will be closed from Stonebridge Rd to Cherrywood Rd, 6:30am to 1:45pm. Between Sallynoggin and Glenageary, Sallyglen Rd (R118) will close from the Glenageary R/A to the Graduate R/A from 6:30am to 2pm. Between 7:15am and 10:15am, the Enniskerry Rd (R117) will close between Kilternan and Enniskerry, County Wicklow. The section between the Dublin/Wicklow county bounds and Enniskerry will remain closed until 10:45am. Between 7:15am and 10:45am, Forge Rd in Enniskerry will also close, along with the Ballybawn/Enniskerry Rd (R760) between Forge Rd and Deerpark Rd. Between 7:30am and 11:15am, Deerpark Rd will close at the Enniskerry Rd jct. Also in Wicklow, the Kilmacanogue/Laragh Rd (R755) will close at Roundwood from 7:30am to 11:30am. Meanwhile, local roads Ashtown Lane and Togher Páirc will also be closed just outside Roundwood. From 7:30am to midday, the Roundwood/Manor Kilbride Rd (R759) will be closed between the Wicklow Way and the Sally Gap. From 7:30am to 1pm, Old Military Rd (R115) will close between the Sally Gap and the Wicklow/Dublin county bounds. Between 8:30am and 1:15pm, this closure will extend on the Dublin side to the local Cruagh Rd jct. Between 8:30am and 1:30pm approx., Cruagh Rd/Ballybrack Rd (R116) will be closed between Kilternan and the turn-off for the Sally Gap. From 8:45am to 2pm, the following south Dublin roads will close: Cherrywood Rd (R116), Bray Rd and the N11 northbound off-ramp at Wyatville Rd. Finally, from 9am to 2pm, Adelaide Rd in Glenageary will be closed, and Glenageary Rd Upr will close between the Glenageary and Killiney roundabouts.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Dún Laoghaire is serviced by Dublin Bus routes 7/a, 8, 45a, 46a, 59, 75 and 111. Diversions will be in place for the following routes during the event: 7/a, 44, 84/a, 145 and 155. See their website for full details. The Dart commuter train runs between Dublin City and Dún Laoghaire every 5 minutes during rush hour and every 20 minutes outside of that.
