Public Transport on St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is the biggest party of the year, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to be on the streets to celebrate on Sunday 17th March. Many of you will be on the move around the country, so we've put together this guide to using public transport on the day. Below, you will find details of schedule changes for Dublin BusLuas, Bus Éireann, Irish Rail and Go-Ahead Ireland services. Due to the volume of people expected to use public transport, our advice is to book ahead, plan your journey carefully in advance and leave plenty of extra time to get to your destination. Most of all, enjoy the weekend!

DUBLIN BUS

A Sunday service will operate on St. Patrick’s Day and Monday 18th March, and there will be a number of diversions on routes between Friday 15th and Monday 18th. Full details of these are available at the Dublin Bus website. Nitelink will operate on the nights of Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th, but there will be no Nitelink service on Monday 18th March.

LUAS

Luas services on St. Patrick's Day and Monday 18th March will run to a Sunday timetable. The following exceptions will apply on Sunday 17th: On the Green Line, trams will only run from Brides Glen to St. Stephen’s Green and from Broombridge to Dominick between 7am and 6pm. As such, the following city centre stops will be closed: Dawson, Westmoreland, O’Connell – GPO, O’Connell Upper, Parnell, Marlborough and Trinity. Services will return to normal after 6pm, with the last trams as follows:
  • From Brides Glen at 11pm
  • From Broombridge at 11:17pm
  • From St. Stephen’s Green at 11:40pm
  • From Sandyford at 11:18pm
On the Red Line, services from Saggart/Tallaght will terminate at Smithfield after 10:45am. As such, the following city centre stops will be closed: Four Courts, Jervis, Abbey Street, Busáras, Connolly, George’s Dock, Mayor Square – NCI, Spencer Dock and The Point. Normal service will resume at approx. 3pm, with the last trams as follows:
  • From Tallaght at 11pm
  • From The Point to Tallaght at 11:30pm
  • From The Point to Saggart at 11:05pm
  • From Saggart at 10:51pm
  • From Connolly at 7:03pm

IRISH RAIL

Services will operate as normal on Saturday 16th March and St. Patrick’s Day itself, though Tara St station will not open until 4pm on the 17th. On Monday 18th March, a special timetable will be in operation. Anyone intending to use the train across the weekend is advised to check the timetable before they travel. Click here to find your route.

All services will run to a Sunday schedule on St. Patrick's Day and Monday 18th March, with a number of cancellations and additional services. They are listed here.

GO-AHEAD IRELAND

On St. Patrick's Day, diversions will be in place on a number of services. Full details can be found here. A Sunday service will operate on all services on Monday 18th March.
