15 May Top Five Golf Courses to Visit in Europe

Planning a golfing trip? Here are top five courses that Open Fairways suggest you visit this summer.

Praia D’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort, Portugal

Praia D’El Rey opened in June 1997 and it is certainly one of the most picturesque layouts in Europe, set in extensive grounds of pine forest and undulating dunes with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands beyond. The championship seaside links is visually stunning and tremendously exciting to play.

Panorámica- Golf & Country Club, Spain

Opened in 1995, Panorámica Golf, Sport & Resort is definitely one of the best golf courses in Spain, located in Castellon, in the town of Sant Jordi, in a beautiful estate of carob and olive trees. This beautiful 18-hole course overlooks the Mediterranean and is complimented by the climate to make for a peaceful atmosphere in which to play golf.

Murrayshall Hotel & Golf Course, Perthshire

The Murrayshall Estate is home to both the Murrayshall and Lynedoch Golf Courses. Both courses are a real contrast to one another – Murrayshall Championship, the wider, longer course requires length and accuracy from the tee shot. Lynedoch however is shorter but no less a challenge, tighter fairways, bracken filled gullies and tall Scots Pine trees narrow the golfer’s view of fairways and greens.

Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa, England

During 2008 we saw Formby Hall transformed into a stunning 27-hole Golf Resort and PGA Golf Academy boasting some of the finest Golf facilities in the North West of England. The Old Course offers a challenge to golfers of every level.  Links style pot bunkers, wooded areas and water hazards provide definition and character to a course that has hosted the European Seniors, Challenge Tour and Euro-Pro Tours.

Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club, Ireland

The unique style of the Slieve Russell golf course is sensitively wrapped around the drumlins of the County Cavan landscape while incorporating 50 acres of lakes in the design.  As a venue for the Smurfit Irish PGA Championship in 1996 and the European Tour’s North West of Ireland Open in 2000 and 2001, this golf course is recognised as one of the top golfing venues in Ireland.

If you’re off on a golfing holiday don’t leave home without an Open Fairways Privilege Card. This clever card gives groups of 1-8 golfers access to over 1500 top courses throughout Europe, including the five courses listed above. Furthermore the card holder and fellow golfers save between 25-50% off the total green fees every round. For more details visit www.openfairways.com
