Over 1 in 7 Irish people plan on travelling abroad to attend a wedding this year according to recent research from AA Travel Insurance.
In response to an AA survey of over 3,000 Irish customers on their 2019 travel plans, 15.02% of respondents stated it was very likely that they would be travelling abroad this year to attend either their own wedding or that of a family member or friend. Meanwhile, a further 10.24% stated they were somewhat likely to be travelling abroad in the name of love this year.
“If you’re fortunate enough to be planning a wedding abroad this year, then you are no doubt snowed under with information about venues, travel plans for the wedding party, fears of how to get dresses, suits and rings abroad and everything in between,” Conor Faughnan, AA Director of Consumer Affairs stated. “While your travel insurance will still cover the normal circumstances such as unexpected curtailment, having wedding cover in place as a travel insurance add-on will give you some peace of mind if your wedding attire was misplaced or help cover the costs of re-taking your photos if they became damaged while travelling.”
The AA survey also found that, excluding our main holiday for the year, slightly over 1 in 10 Irish people will travel abroad this year on a golfing holiday. 3.23% of those surveyed by the AA stated they were very likely to take a golfing trip abroad during 2018, with a further 2.76% describing themselves as somewhat likely to hit the links abroad.
“For more and more of us, particularly in recent years, travelling abroad multiple times a year is becoming increasingly common with everything from weddings to golf taking us abroad outside of our main holiday during the summer months. However, during short-term breaks we can all sometimes be a little guilty of thinking that we don’t need travel insurance or that cover is only required for your main holiday, but ultimately the risks of lost baggage or unexpected cancellation are the same regardless of the duration of your trip,” Faughnan added. “Similarly, if your trip includes something outside of the norm, like a wedding or bringing expensive golf equipment with you, it’s often worth discussing this with your travel insurance provider to ensure that your cover meets your specific needs.”
