4 in 10 Irish people are planning to take multiple trips abroad during the remainder of 2018, according to recent research from AA Travel Insurance.
In response to an AA survey of over 5,000 customers and members, 40.28% of respondents stated it was very likely that they would make one or more trips abroad during the year excluding their main holiday. Meanwhile, a further 12.33% of those surveyed stated they were somewhat likely to travel abroad multiple times this year, with just 17.83% of respondents viewing it as very unlikely that they would go abroad more than once this year.
“When you factor in business trips or short-term city breaks, for many of us travelling abroad is no longer restricted to our main holiday during the summer months – with this becoming particularly true in recent years as the economy has improved. Everything from work to leisure feature in our travel plans this year in addition to our main holiday, meaning that having cover while abroad is becoming even more important,” Conor Faughnan, AA Director of Consumer Affairs stated. “Some people will still opt to purchase a single-trip travel insurance policy each time they travel abroad, but the more often you travel the more you could save by instead opting for an annual multi-trip travel policy.”“While our travel plans often vary greatly year-on-year, as a general rule of thumb if you are likely to travel outside Ireland more than twice in a 12 month period than opting for an annual travel insurance policy over multiple single-trip policies could help leave a little extra spending money in your pocket.”
According to the survey short-term city breaks are likely to be the main reason for an additional trip abroad this year, with 32.73% of respondents stating they were very likely to take a city break with either their family or friends. Meanwhile, outside of travel for leisure, the survey also found that 17.74% of Irish people are very likely to travel for business this year, with a further 11.92% somewhat likely to take a business trip abroad.
“Whether you’re travelling abroad for relaxation or to work, avoiding the travel nightmares such as lost baggage or having to cancel the trip at the last minute is important to all of us. Unfortunately, in some cases, these scenarios can’t be avoided,” Faughnan added. “Having travel insurance in place can help offset the associated costs, meaning you don’t have to worry about having to call off an important business meeting because your suit got lost while travelling.”
