Black Friday – Time To Double Check Your Home Cover

In 2019 Irish retailers were estimated to have spent up to €250 million on Black Friday alone. With many retailers closed or for the month of November, 2020 will likely see a many of us jump online hoping to find a Black Friday bargain. However, finding a good value present for yourself or sorting on the kids’ Christmas presents early is only half the battle – now you need to keep the gifts and your home safe and secure to avoid any Christmas nightmares.

Cover Your Black Friday Buys

In light of the holiday season getting underway, AA Ireland is reminding Black Friday bargain hunters to ensure that their home insurance and contents insurance policies are up to date. With AA Home Insurance, we will automatically increase your contents cover by 10% for the month of December and January to cover the cost of replacing Christmas gifts if they are stolen or damaged while in your private home. However, as the lockdown measures introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic led many us to indulge in a bit of online shopping throughout the year, now is a good time to check that your most valuable items are covered as part of your policy.  If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to contents insurance, check out our handy checklist – both under and over-insuring the value of your contents can have consequences if you need to make a claim.

Watch Out For Burglars

The winter months traditionally see an increase in burglary rates. While we may be spending more time at home in the lead-up to Christmas this year, that doesn’t mean you should ignore the risk of theft. Take some time away from your online shopping to double-check that your burglar alarm is working and that your doors and windows are secure.  If you’re unsure where to start, visit our guide on how to keep your home safe this winter.

Weather Woes

A recent AA survey found approximately 25% of home-owners have had their home damaged to some extent as a result of weather events in the past 5 years. While the majority of this damage was minor, more extensive damage can be caused by flooding, burst pipes, or a leaky roof which leave you with little more than wet cardboard boxes where your presents once stood. Thankfully, AA Ireland has some advice to help you out if you’ve left some of your property repairs to the last minute and need some guidance on winter-proofing your home.

If Black Friday and Cyber Monday haven’t worn you out and you’re still on the hunt for a bargain, why not see if we can help you save on your home insurance?
