Half of Holiday-goers Plan Increased Holiday Spend in 2018.

Almost half of Irish people plan on spending more of their hard earned cash on their main holiday this summer when compared to their main holiday last year, according to recent research.

The survey of over 4,000 holiday-goers, undertaken by AA Travel Insurance ahead of the launch of its May flash sale, found that when holiday costs and spending money were factored in 21.48% of respondents stated they were very likely to spend more money on their holiday this year. Meanwhile, a further 27.22% stated they were ‘somewhat likely’ to increase their spend in 2018, with just 1 in 8 respondents (12.63%) describing themselves as ‘very unlikely’ to spend more on their holiday in 2018.

“It may not seem like that long ago that many families had to scrap or greatly reduce their traditional summer holiday plans during the worst years of the recession, but these findings do highlight that many of us now are in a better financial position and, as a result, feel a little more comfortable splashing out and treating ourselves while we’re on holiday,” Conor Faughnan, AA Director of Consumer Affairs stated. “The good news for those who maybe aren’t in the position to loosen the purse strings this year is that by shopping around and exploring less popular destinations it’s still possible to create great holiday memories with your family at an affordable price.”

“We know that covering holiday costs can be a stressful time for many and, as a result, you often see people take the risk of travelling abroad without travel insurance because they feel they can’t afford cover. With Annual Travel Insurance available on our website from just €21.50 for the month of May we’re proud to be able to offer our customers one of the most competitive prices in the market for annual multi-trip insurance.”

The AA Travel Insurance survey also found that over 40% of Irish people intend on travelling abroad more than once over the course of 2018.

40.18% of those surveyed stated that they were ‘very likely’ to travel abroad on one or more occasions this year excluding their main holiday, with a further 13.09% describing themselves as ‘somewhat likely’ to take more than one holiday this year.

“If you are one of the fortunate people who intend on travelling abroad more than once this year then it’s important that you purchase the correct travel insurance for you in order to help keep costs down,” Faughnan added. “Buying annual travel insurance which covers you on every trip you take during a period of 12 months will prove more affordable if you’re planning multiple trips in the year ahead, and it will also prove more convenient as you avoid having to purchase new cover before every trip.”

Looking for travel insurance at an affordable price? During our flash sale AA Annual Travel Insurance is available online from just €21.50.
