Traffic restrictions re visits of Queen Elizabeth & Barack Obama

date-icon 11 May 2011  author-icon Posted by Miriam O'Neill

We are getting lots of enquiries about the traffic restrictions for the upcoming State Visits… Full details continually updated on the AA Roadwatch website here:

AA Roadwatch State Visits Info

The Garda are certainly in for a busy month. The two very important visits take place only a few days apart. There will be widespread traffic and parking restrictions from this weekend. Details are continually updated on the AA Roadwatch website but a lot of specific information such as road closure times is not yet being made available. Keep an eye on the website for updates during the state visits.

The Gardai will certainly be kept busy over the next couple of weeks but I wasn’t expecting humour from them. Their statement that “All business and commercial activity will continue as normal in Dublin city” has to be laughed at. I don’t see how I am going to continue with normal deliveries with so many roads closed to parking. Likewise my customers will have problems taking deliveries.

A police escort around her when she travels should be enough. This amount of road closures is compeltely idiotic and is going to cause chaos as its a normal working week. Very bad planning on the part of the Gardai.

I live in Laois but work in Dublin. Mostly I have to start work at 10 amd I finish at 12 and will be heading to and from work via N7/M7. Is it likely that this road will be closed before 10?

Hi Jacqui.
Please see a response to your query from Arwen Fowley in our AA Roadwatch Team:

“The answer is yes but we will only be told a short while before it happens. The N7 will experience brief closures at certain times over the days of the visit. There will also be period of exit closures on the M7 between J5 Athgoe and J12 Newbridge on Thurs 19th from 9:30 to 3:30, although the mainline will remain open. All the restrictions that we know about are on the website and we will update the closures as we get them.

I have an appointment in Mater private hospital at 7.30am on Sat 14th May. I had intended driving and parking in College of Surgeons carpark and going the rest of the way by taxi. Will getting to surgeons/stephens green car park be posible at that time? Thank you.

Could you please display the information in a timetable format. On a given day I am going into Dublin City. I could look at that day and ignore all the others. Otherwise I am having to trawl through lots of information and trying to interpret does it apply. On that day to Dublin I couldn’t care less if the restrictions are in Cork and vice versa.
If you can’t do it for QE2 maybe you could do it for Prres. Obama’s visit.

hello.i was in dublin recently and noticed two gurda motorbike riders heading to dublin airport one sat morning around 10 am and we were approaching roundabout near dublin airport when they cam past me at speed and kept crossing from lane to lane without indicators no blue lights or sirens and straight through red light nearly getting knocked down by other cars coming from santry direction.even down by busaras in dublin when i am on bus between dublin apt and heston station you regurarly see them making a right turn down luas line toward the garda station which has no right turn.yet they do it all the time in lots of places.they even drive against luas around opposite luas up toward irish life buildings which has a no entry sign now all these times i mention no blue lights were been used.when the so called guards in these country should get there rules of the road correct and have respect for other drivers and pedrestrians when they are driving.personally guards in these country are only intersted in one thing money and disrupting the tax payer trying go about his buisness during these two ridiclous visits and costing the hard pressed motorist and taxpayer as usual.imagine 10.000 guards on dublin streets where did they all come out of for the week as there is never a guard around when you have equipment stolen from your car or house and if you get robbed in any city in ireland they are never avalible as they are another call.same goes for dublin airport next wednesday when match is on they are directing traffic around perimeter road and the buses have to got that way on to m50 and that will be a nightmare for people trying to get in and out of dublin airport.when will this country which is been run so bad by this government and guards seem only to come out of there big grey buildings when heads of state come to ireland.

Hi, I live in West Cork and will be travelling to the airport in the early morning of Friday, 20th to catch the 8.10 plane. Will there be restrictions along this route, and if so, what delays can I expect?

Hi,

In relation to the closures on the N4, is traffic outbound from the M50/N4 junction unaffacted? All detail seems to refer to inbound

Thanks

Hi Michael,

Our Roadwatch team have set up a dedicated site on the visit of both Queen Elizabeth and Barack Obama which you can access at: http://www.aaireland.ie/AA/AA-Roadwatch/Event-Guide/Visits-by-Queen-Elizabeth-II-and-President-Barack-Obama/Queen-Elizabeth-II.aspx

They’ll be keeping this up to date on a rolling basis so your best bet is to check in and keep yourself up to date.

Thanks,
Miriam.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
