Many of us will be relying on public transport to get out and about over the Christmas and New Year period. If you are hoping to avoid long delays and busy car parks, or to get home late after your Christmas parties, then read on for details of extra services and schedule changes for Dublin Bus, Luas, Irish Rail (including DART) and Bus Éireann.
Remember to check the provider’s website for specific times and routes before you travel, and to leave extra time for your journey during the busy holiday period.
Irish Rail will be offering late-night trains on several lines in the run-up to Christmas, offering party-goers more options to get home. Trains will leave Dublin city centre at 1:30am or later on the Dundalk, Maynooth and Kildare commuter lines, plus the DART, on the three weekends before Christmas Day.
Late night services will operate on Friday 8th, Saturday 9th, Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Friday 22nd December at the following times:

Dublin Bus will be providing extra Nitelink services on selected nights in the run-up to Christmas and over the holiday period. Timetables are available here. There will be no Nitelink service between Christmas Eve and Thurs 28th December inclusive.

Please note that Luas Cross City is now open – the Green Line extension from St Stephen’s Green to Broombridge.

**Route 103 (Dublin to Tayto Park via Ashbourne and Ratoath) and NX (Navan Express) will operate a Saturday service from Wed 27th – Fri 29th Dec.
Late Night Services
Extra late-night services will be available over the Christmas period, including Nightrider services from Dublin to Balbriggan, Drogheda, Naas, Newbridge, Sallins and Clane.
A 24-hour service will also operate on Route 109A: Kells-Navan-Dunshaughlin-Ratoath-Ashbourne-Dublin Airport-Dublin City Centre.
In Cork, additional late-night services will operate on Fri 15th, Sat 16th, Fri 22nd and Sat 23rd Dec, departing Patrick Street bound for Douglas, Carrigaline, Ballingcollig, Blarney and Midleton at 1am, 2am and 3am each night. Regular day fares apply.
There will also be Park & Ride services in Cork and Galway, and special Christmas fares in Co. Galway.
