Well, we have finally reached the last bank holiday weekend of 2013 and whether it’s a trick or a treat you’re after there is plenty on offer.
The Virginia Pumpkin Festival takes place in Cavan this October Bank Holiday Weekend. The highlights of the festival now in its 6th year including live music, BBQ’s and Bonfires. However, the largest crowds are expected on Sunday for the Night Parade and Fireworks Display. The N3 Dublin/Cavan Rd will be closed in Virginia on Sunday from midday until midnight. Diversions will be in place. New St and a section of the Ballyjamesduff Rd will also be closed during this time.
The Cork Jazz Festival will take place in Cork City over the Bank Holiday weekend; with events taking place across the city. Up to 40,000 people are expected to attend and traffic is likely to be heavy around the city centre as a result.
Then it’s off to the capital bright and early Monday morning for the Dublin Marathon which gets underway at 9am from Fitzwilliam St. The route will see participants travel through the city centre, both north and south, through the Phoenix Park and along the N11 and Merrion Rd before finishing up at Merrion Square North between midday and 5pm. Extensive closures will be in place from 4am in the city and Dublin Bus will operate with a number of diversions as a result.
Keep in mind also there will be alterations to DART, Commuter and Belfast Enterprise services across the October Bank Holiday weekend. DART services will operate between Bray/Greystones and Pearse Station only.
All and all a busy weekend ahead of us and you can keep up to date with the latest travel news on aaroadwatch.ie or follow @aaroadwatch.
