There’s some good news for Dublin motorists who regularly use Tom Clarke Bridge (East Link) in the docklands. Toll charges are set for a significant reduction because VAT will no longer apply.
This comes on foot of a decision by the European Court of Justice earlier this year on how VAT is charged for services provided by the State. The same judgement affects other state-operated tolls as well like the M50 and the Port Tunnel. In those cases though the operator TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) was already ‘absorbing’ the VAT amount & holding it while they waited for the court decision.
Effectively that means no change for us; just that the €2.10 that you pay on the M50 will no longer include VAT. At the Tom Clarke Bridge, however, rates are to be reduced as of Friday 18th August 2017 to reflect the ruling. They will mean a significant saving for commuters.
The price changes are as follows:
Vehicle Class Old Toll Rate New Toll Rate
Car €1.75 €1.40
Van/Bus €2.60 €2.10
2 Axle €3.50 €2.85
3 Axle €4.30 €3.50
4 Axle €5.20 €4.25
