Located just outside Newcastle in Castlewellan, Tollymore is another outdoor treat for the whole family.
There are plenty of walking trails to choose from, whether it’s along the river Shimna or through the woods, and all in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains. Make sure to pack a camera as there are plenty of amazing photographic opportunities.
It’s also worth noting that the hugely popular TV show Game of Thrones was filmed here. It features in the first episode of Season 1 when the members of the Night’s Watch discover some of the dismembered Wildlings as well as being where Ned Stark comes across the direwolf pups, which is the scene below.
For those that are passing Newry, some may be inclined to stop in for a spot of shopping on the way to the Royal County Down Golf Course or indeed on the way home. Keep in mind that the currency exchange rate isn’t that great at the moment if you’re converting from euro to sterling.
H&M, Jack & Jones, HMV, Debenhams, Pandora, River Island, Miss Selfridge and Topshop are some of the shops at The Quays Shopping Centre in Newry. There are also a number of fast food eateries on offer, including Burger King, Eddie Rockets and Subway.
