Public transport: May Bank Holiday 2018

If you’re planning to be out and about over the May Bank Holiday weekend, you can expect changes to public transport schedules. We’ve compiled the major changes for Dublin Bus, LuasIrish Rail (including DART) and Bus Éireann.

As always on a bank holiday, services are expected to be busy – so it’s best to book in advance if possible and leave plenty of extra time for your journey.

IRISH RAIL

There will be disruption to some Irish Rail services in north Dublin on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May due to planned engineering works on the line between Connolly and Howth/Malahide.

This will affect northside DART, Northern Commuter and Belfast Enterprise services.

DART

Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May

  • No DART service between Connolly and Malahide/Howth stations
  • Dublin Bus will accept valid rail tickets for travel within the affected area
  • DART services will operate between Dublin Connolly and Bray/Greystones only

Bank Holiday Monday 7th May

  • Sunday schedule
Northern Commuter

Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May

  • Bus transfers between Dublin Connolly and Malahide, with trains between Malahide and all stations to Dundalk
  • NB: Bus transfers to Malahide and Drogheda will depart from Connolly car park, which is located off Platform 2 in the station.
Cork

Friday 4th to Sunday 6th May

Extra trains after the Ed Sheeran concerts at Pairc Uí Chaoimh:

  • 11:40pm Cork to Midleton, serving all stations to Midleton
  • 11:45pm Cork to Mallow
  • 11:50pm Cork to Cobh, serving all stations to Cobh

Bank Holiday Monday 7th May

  • Cork to Cobh: hourly from 8am to 9pm, and at 10:30pm
  • Cobh to Cork: hourly from 8:30am to 9:30pm, and at 11pm
  • Cork to Midleton: hourly from 8:15am to 10:15pm
  • Midleton to Cork: hourly from 8:45am to 10:45pm
Belfast (Enterprise)

Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Bank Holiday Monday 7th May

  • Bus transfers between Connolly and Drogheda with a train service between Drogheda and Belfast
  • The 7:35am Connolly/Belfast service on Mon 7th May will operate as bus transfer to Drogheda
  • NB: Bus transfers to Malahide and Drogheda will depart from Connolly car park, which is located off Platform 2 in the station.
Intercity

Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May

Normal service with some alterations.

Bank Holiday Monday 7th May

BUS ÉIREANN

Normal Saturday service

Sunday 6th May

Normal Sunday service with the following cancellations:

  • 8pm Dublin/Waterford (Route 4)
  • 10:30pm Dublin/Waterford (Route 4)
  • 6pm Waterford/DCU (Route 4)
  • 7:30pm Waterford/DCU (Route 4)
  • 3:30pm Dundalk/Galway (Route 70)
  • 6pm Galway/Dundalk (Route 70)
  • 10pm Carlow/Athlone (Route 73)
  • 12:50pm Galway/Clifden (Route 419)
  • 4:15pm Clifden/Galway (Route 419)

Bank Holiday Monday 7th May

Sunday service with the following cancellations:

  • 3:30pm Dundalk/Galway (Route 70)
  • 6pm Galway/Dundalk (Route 70)
  • 10pm Carlow/Athlone (Route 73)

The following additional services will operate:

  • 1:30pm Galway/Clifden (Route 419)
  • 6:15pm Galway/Clifden (Route 419)
  • 8:05am Galway/Ballinrobe (Route 456)
  • 4:30pm Ballina/Galway (Route 456)

DUBLIN BUS

Dublin Bus will run as normal on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May, with a Sunday service for Bank Holiday Monday 7th May.

Nitelinks will run on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th May and Monday 6th May.

LUAS

Luas will run as normal on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May, with a Sunday service for Bank Holiday Monday 7th May.
