Features & Benefits for Travel Insurance for over 70s 🏝

We understand that travel doesn’t stop at 70 – in fact, it’s often when the best adventures begin. That’s why we offer travel insurance for customers over 70 through our standard AA Travel Insurance policies, with features designed to support your peace of mind.

Get a maximum of €6,000 (Extra Policy) or €3,500 (Essential Policy) in non-refundable expenses for flights or accommodation when your holiday is cancelled on grounds of illness, accident, or other event covered by the policy.

Note: Exclusions are subject to pre-existing medical condition and traveling against to government advisory.

  • Up to €10,000,000 in medical bills (Extra Policy)
  • Up to €5,000,000 in medical bills (Essential Policy)

Includes in-patient stays in hospitals, emergency care, and medically necessary repatriations.

Note: If you are privately insured, you will need to claim on your own insurance provider (a minimum inpatient overseas insurance of €55,000).

  • If your luggage takes longer than 12 hours to arrive, you may be entitled to a payment of as much as €300 under the Extra Policy towards the cost of necessities.
  • In case your property gets lost or is stolen while you are away, you are covered for €3,000.
  • Lost or stolen passport and document replacement fees are also covered, so you can get back on schedule in a hurry.

Important Information: Travel Insurance for over 70s

  • Essential Cover is available to travellers up to age 79 at the time of policy commencement.
  • Extra Cover may be available with no upper age limit, subject to completion of a health declaration and acceptance.

  • You must declare all pre-existing medical conditions. We will assess your information and confirm in writing whether these are covered. If a condition is not accepted, any related claims may be excluded.

  • Claims arising from undeclared or unaccepted medical conditions will not be paid.

No. Travel Insurance for Over 70s is not a separate product – it’s our standard AA Travel Insurance (Essential, Extra, or Value), tailored with guidance relevant for travellers. Eligibility and cover depend on your age and health status at the time of taking out the policy.

Yes. Coverage is available for those up to age 79. Over 80s are not eligible. Only those under 65 are covered by value policies.

Yes, but they must be declared. Some minor or stable conditions (like hay fever, cataracts, and IBS) may be automatically covered, provided they meet specific criteria (e.g. no recent hospitalisations, no medication changes). For other conditions, written acceptance is required.

If you have private health insurance that covers inpatient medical treatment overseas up to at least €55,000, you’ll need to claim from that insurer first. This may also affect your premium.

For most customers, the maximum single trip duration is up to 45 days. However, if you’re aged 76 or over, the limit reduces to 31 days per trip under annual policies.

Yes. Our Extra policy covers up to €10 million for emergency medical expenses and repatriation. Essential cover provides lower limits – check your policy schedule for full details.
