Fiat 500e - Best City Car - AA Car Awards 2022

Winner of Best City Car

Fiat 500e

The Fiat 500 has been around for a long time. Still, the brand keeps doing enough to keep the model fresh and the most recent major revision, which added a Hybrid and an EV powertrain, was enough to power the 500 home to a victory in the City Car Category. While it retains the basic design theme of the 500, the latest version has been thoroughly modernised to keep it up to date, and the interior is very stylish. This is a perfect city car due to its agile handling and small dimensions. The real star of the show is the new 500 E electric vehicle, which is genuinely excellent and performs brilliantly. And priced from just €24,995 including grants, it is Ireland’s cheapest electric vehicle (for now at least), and Juror Shane O’Donoghue of CompleteCar.ie said, “The Fiat 500 has always been one of the most charming cars which are full of character. Now available as a fully electric car makes great sense for driving in and around the city. You can’t help but smile whilst nipping around town in it.”

Runners Up:

Toyota Aygo

Toyota Aygo X

The Toyota Aygo X is a car that took a lot of critics by surprise because the first Aygo model was relatively unremarkable. Still, the Aygo X changed all that with pseudo-SUV looks and impressive equipment levels, especially in the Limited Edition, which has the sort of standard kit you would see in a large executive car. Only available with a willing 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, the Aygo X starts from under €20,000

Hyundai i10

Hyundai i10

The i10 was the Number 1 choice of our jurors, including Dave Humphreys and Shane O’Donoghue. The i10 features a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre engine with 67 PS, and there is a 5-car line-up for Ireland, starting from €15,245. This is one of the best small cars you can buy.
