Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has always been a firm favourite with the Irish buyer and the new one looks set to continue that trend as it has been incredibly well received by customers and critics alike and was a comfortable winner of the Medium Crossover section. The new Sportage continues Kia’s good form in terms of design of late with a handsome exterior matched to a really clever interior. AA Ireland Car Awards Juror Philip Hederman of The Herald said; “The latest generation Sportage has upped the ante in style, comfort and luxury. The cabin is second to none with a new curved digital display and a real premium feel. Excellent choice of powertrains too including Diesel, petrol, mild hybrid and PHEV. And we can’t forget the 7-year warranty.” The Sportage starts from €35,500 with a 1.6-litre Diesel but the pick of the range is the excellent €46,000 PHEV version.

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is often credited as being the car that created the Crossover segment and it is now in its third generation and while it isn’t as dramatically styled as some of its rivals it has fine-tuned the recipe to such a degree that this is one of the nicest places to spend time in and one of the most perfect family cars you can buy. Prices start at €34,600 for the 1.3-litre, 138hp Mild Hybrid. 

Hyundai Tucson

The Tucson has been consistently Ireland’s best-selling car for a number of years now and with good reason, it is excellent. With a wide choice of powertrains, stunning styling and great standard equipment, this may well continue for some time to come as there is no sign of any other model catching it any time soon. Prices start at €36,345, with the pick of the bunch being the €42,295 PHEV.
