New Year, New Me: Getting Your Car in Order

Published 13th January 2023Read Time 4 min

Been looking at your car from the living window and wondering if there’s anything you could improve upon? Found nagging problems in the morning during that last cold spell that is making you question whether it’s time to go shopping for a new motor?

From renewing car insurance to buying a new car, here is how The AA can help with getting your car in order for the year ahead.

When you’re looking for a better deal on car insurance

Reminding someone to renew their insurance is like telling someone they’ve a dentist appointment. You can put it off all you want, but you’ll need to get it sorted at some point. And contrary to belief, moving providers for a better deal doesn’t have to feel like pulling teeth.

Without tooting our own horn, AA car insurance is a quick and convenient way to see if there’s a better quote. We compare quotes from AXA, Aviva, Allianz, RSA, Liberty Insurance, Zurich & KennCo (that’s 7 different insurance providers) to find you the best quote based on your driving needs.

When you’re going to be driving abroad

Have some BIG holiday plans for the year ahead? Whether it’s a case of globe-trotting or heading outside the EU on your holiday, you might not know that you can’t just have your license in your pocket and be good to go.

Many countries outside of the EU require travellers to have an international driving permit (IDP) before they’re allowed on the road. If you know you plan on having a hire car to get around, check if the country is listed here, and then apply for an international driving permit. (Quick note: The AA are the only authorised provider by the Government of Ireland to issue IDPs in Ireland)

When you’re not sure what condition your next car could be in

No one is expected to be a car expert, but when you’re getting ready to buy a car, you don’t want to end up with what would be considered a dud. Without having to get overalls on and asking who can give you access to a car lift, you could always let The AA help out.

As part of the AA-approved car network, we list cars that have undergone a rigorous 101 safety point check & a complete history check before we give the thumbs up to let them go on sale. And even if you’re not buying from a main brand dealer, you can have peace of mind that you won’t find any surprises!

When you’re not an AA member?

Some people think being an AA member is like being in an exclusive club. While there are a host of benefits from complete peace of mind on the road, to exclusive rewards, if you have an issue with your car, you’re not going to be left on your own.

If you’re not an AA member but want the chance to get help, save our non-member number (+353 1 649 7460) on your phone. Call when you need help, and we’ll be there to get you going on the road again!
