AA Home Insurance tips on keeping your home safe this Halloween

date-icon 23 Oct 2018  author-icon Posted by Miriam O'Neill

Halloween is a time of spooks and ghouls, thrills and spills, and things that go bump in the night. But the most important thing is to keep yourself and your family safe. Here are our top tips for a fun-filled Halloween celebration:

  1. Keep dangerous substances such as oil, petrol, diesel, spray cans locked away and in a fire proof cabinet if you have one.
  2. Avoid leaving flammable materials such as foam furniture, paint and tyres lying around your garden.
  3. Don’t leave anything flammable leaning up against your home.
  4. Think twice about having lit candles around the house and be sure to blow them out even if you’re just popping out for a couple of minutes.
  5. Bonfires and fireworks are illegal. If you feel either are jeopardising the safety of your home, report it to the fire brigade immediately.
  6. If you’ll be out and about, make sure your alarm is on, that all the windows and doors are locked and get someone to house-sit if you can.
  7. Remove any obstacles from your driveway that might trip up trick-or-treaters as they call to your house in the dark.
  8. Park your car in your garage or off the street if you can.
  9. Try and keep your pet inside the quietest part of your house and away from candles. A frightened St. Bernard could wreak havoc inside your house! It’s hard to believe, but some people actually get a thrill out of tormenting or harassing pets on Halloween.
  10. Keep your house well lit. Vandals and pranksters have one thing in common: they don’t like standing in the spotlight. A well-lit property has a smaller chance of getting attacked – not only on Halloween but any time of the year.

Happy Halloween one and all!

not sure if this is the best place to write this!
I just wast to say how helpful and a joy it was to be helped by such gentlemen who
came out to sort the problem with our car.
Lat night we had home rescue and this morning we had I think from fuel help.
Both men were more than helpful and I would like to thank them for making everything so easy.
