The Škoda Fabia just pipped the Toyota Yaris in the Supermini category but is, without doubt, one of the most impressive small cars we have driven in some time. With a starting price of €19,820, the latest Fabia is new from the ground up and sits on the Volkswagen Group’s new larger platform. This means that the car is much bigger than before and has an enormous boot. The engine line-up is thankfully straightforward, with the option of some willing petrol engines. Juror Neil Briscoe from The Irish Times said,” The latest Fabia just makes everything else in its class look and feel small and cheap. It’s not as fun to drive as others, but it has an all-around brilliance.”

The Yaris is a car that has transformed from a dowdy nun-mobile to a handsome, engaging, interesting vehicle to drive over the years. The latest Yaris looks good and comes with excellent safety kit and a good choice of specifications. Pricing starts from €22,050, making it one of the more premium superminis.

Peugeot 208

Peugeot has always had an excellent reputation for making great small cars, and the latest 208 sees them return to form after the perhaps less impressive 207. The 208 also comes with the option of a full EV, the e-208, which has a 50kWh electric motor and 136hp and comes in at just over €30,000.
